Thinking about a career in IT? Want to get some work experience in an exciting and innovative technology company? Look no further than Kainos.

Our work experience programme

We offer 16-18 year-olds a real insight into what it’s like to work in IT. Over the five days that you’ll spend in our Belfast office, you will get to experience a taste of everything we do here at Kainos, meet lots of our people and get hands-on with some programming.

You’ll be assigned a mentor who will take you through various development exercises, giving you the chance to grow your skills, learn more about project management and experience some of the cutting edge technologies that we use here at Kainos. You’ll also get the chance to put everything you’ve learned into action by creating your own mobile app!

Here’s what you can expect on each of the five days at Work Experience with Kainos.

The Kainos work experience scheme is aimed at 16 to 18 year-olds with all levels of technical knowledge. You will be supervised by a mentor during your time with Kainos who will be on hand to provide guidance and support to you.

The work experience scheme runs for five days in total, from Monday to Friday, 10am until 3pm each day. You need to be available to attend all five days.

Over the four days, you will learn how to develop a website using the latest technology, building your HTML and CSS skills along the way, as well as getting familiar with some of the terms we use on a daily basis. You will also learn how to develop mobile applications and test them on a real device! On the final day, you’ll work through some different challenges and present your final product to your mentor and others, gaining experience of project management and improving your presenting skills.

You’ll get a real idea of what it’s like to be a software engineer working for Kainos. Finally, you’ll gain some of the technical skills that software developers use on a daily basis – and have fun along the way!

I enjoyed using Android Studio as it involved using a new programming language (JAVA) and using the Raspberry Pi (Python). I also enjoyed the atmosphere and the pizza!

I enjoyed learning the basics of programming. As my school does not offer computer science as a subject choice, I found Kainos Work Experience to be a great insight into Computer Science and careers related to this subject.
